Images & Visual Content
High-quality images play a vital role in capturing attention and creating an engaging, enjoyable website experience. While the importance of imagery can vary depending on a site’s purpose, strong visuals almost always enhance clarity, credibility, and impact.
I have over 15 years’ experience working with Adobe Photoshop, and have seen first-hand how image preparation has evolved. What once required complex layering and extensive manual adjustments can now often be achieved far more efficiently. That said, good software alone doesn’t make a good image — an experienced eye still matters.
Today, I make extensive use of Adobe Lightroom to prepare images quickly and consistently, ensuring they look natural, balanced, and appropriate for the web.
Performance is always a priority. Image size has a significant impact on page speed, so I optimise images carefully and, wherever possible, deliver them in WebP format, which offers excellent quality at a much smaller file size.
Images may come from several sources. In many cases, clients provide their own photography. Frequently, however, I visit locations to take bespoke photographs specifically for the website — as I have done for projects such as Cabin Boatyard and my own travel-focused website.
When suitable, I also source imagery online. There is a wide range of high-quality content available for legal use, and even licensed images are often more affordable than expected when used appropriately.
The end result is imagery that not only looks good, but is optimised, purposeful, and tailored to the website it supports.

Vidoes can also be important. Whether adding grpahical value or instriuctions, depending on the website they can be very powerful.
I have been using Apple’s Final Cut Pro for many years now and find it a pretty versatile editting system.
